I just had to share this when I saw it. Literally built out of card-board, this thing allows you to draw, navigate or play using just your fingers. And yes, it allows multiple touches, so it’s not same as just attaching a pen instead of your mouse. It comes with software and everything, and was all done by one amazing artist. Here’s the video:
The force is still strong with Apple. People again lined for the new Ipad around the block.
I still don’t get what the whole fuss is all about.
I mean, why in the world would you line up around the block just to get an Ipad? Do you not have a job? Or maybe you just want to be homeless for a night? I am not really sure. There is nothing particularly amazing about Iphone or Ipad, or, at least, not anymore. It just a tablet and a phone. Yes, they have a half-eaten apple on them. And yes, they are kind of sexy.
I guess it’s the same force that drives people to purchase Gucci or Prada or BMW’s. A large part of it involves showing it off to other people. Look at me, I am rich, hip and can afford this thing.
What are some of the reasons I don’t like Apple? One, I don’t like their closed dictatorial system. It’s like North Korea. Apple rules this world with an iron fist. From one point, it’s good, because everything works better together. But, me personally, i like the freedom that the android/pc world gives you. I don’t like to be confined and told what to do. The second reason is practicality. I personally think a PC or an android device can do everything Apple can, but for less. So why overpay then? I don’t see a reason.
And that’s why I am not in line to buy any Apple products. And that’s actually a good thing, because I like my logical mind just the way it is.
The news it prints are ridiculous, and not in a good way. All it does is trump up retarded companies that were started with the purpose of making money, and nothing else.
Every other article it prints goes like this: Company A just secured X number of millions from X Capital, Y Capital, Z capital.
How much of this shit can you print? It’s obvious these losers are desperate for publicity, and the only “news” outlet that would print their fake press releases is TechCrunch. Techcrunch was started by a lawyer – enough said. Lawyers are professional liars.
Techcrunch also sucks because it doesn’t tolerate creative comments. It deletes people who speak up about the shiz they print. Thus, they are alienating readers.
A lot of people think the tech industry is a goldmine. And why shouldn’t they? All you read about is this company got millions in funding, that company got bought out, Apple is making billions, etc etc. So, it seems like everyone and their grandma is making money with tech?
But is that true in reality? The answer is, no. What many people don’t understand, is that the hardware/software/computer industry is dominated by giants. In fact, few industries approach the tech industry in terms of dominating companies. Conglometrates like Oracle and Microsoft make billions, while everyone else is barely getting by. The money is not distributed evenly. The lucky few strike untold riches, while others have little. In other industries, the money is ditributed more evenly – for example, foods, manufacturing or medical.
A lot of people think – oh my god, I need to go make a website and I’ll be rich. In reality, that’s not true. Everyone likes to sit on their butt, move fingers and make money. Therefore, you are competing with the whole world. A lot of times, you are competing with people in other countries who can, and do, live on dollars a day. And they are pretty smart too.
The tech industry should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s not a goldmine. It takes luck and a lot of hard work to succeed. And it’s not for everyone. You don’t have to do something terribly complicated to make money, plenty of people do simple things like fashion or food manufacture and make millions. Explore other options.
Apple is remove Eve, the Siri-like app, from it’s app store. Why? Because it’s competition for Siri. The app lets its users speak into the phone, while the phone produces intelligent answers regarding directions, restaurants, appointments and such.
This is the height of Apple hippocracy – getting rid of competitors through direct measures such as this. This would be equivalent to Google removing links to Bing and Blekko or Windows not running a Linux installer.
Apple is a computer for idiots and snobs. Most of the Apple users are Starbucks drinking, texting every 5 minutes teenagers, not professionals. The apple computer doesn’t like people with a brain – everything is very easy to use. They probably do testing on 5 year olds. If a 5 year old is having trouble with a feature – Apple scraps it.
This article highlights the differences between US and UK medical education system. The US system compares extremely poorly. Unfortunately, there are no solutions in sight – the US has no plans to bring any major changes to it.
Becoming a doctor:
US:
length: 11 years – 4undergrad, 4 medical school, 3 residence.
Cost: average undergrad: $15k/yr, medical: $60k/yr for a total of $300,000 /yr
Loans: with interest
average salary: $160/k yr
average age of new graduate: 30-33
UK:
length: 5 years – 4 year medical school + 1 residency
cost: 3,000 UK pounds for UK residents/yr - total: $23,000
Loans: interest free by UK gov’t
average salary: $95/k yr
average age of new graduate: 22
Analysis: the US medical system is mired by greed, inefficiency and bureaucracy. As a result, it is much poorer than the UK system.
Why is the US system set up in such a poor way?
The US education system is one big business, especially at private colleges. It’s primary goal is generating money. As a result, education is very long and expensive. They charge exorbitant tuition, book fees, living expenses, basically everything they can to extort money. As a result, it takes longer than 10 years and costs over $300,000 in total.
American doctors who graduate are over 30 and have tons of debt. They are frustrated, angry and annoyed. Since they have gone through all this, they feel they are entitled to make tons of money. They are stuck with a huge debt, and making money becomes a priority higher than providing good treatment.
Since it’s such a long and exhausting education path, lots of talented and smart people elect to go into a different career, leaving the medical field altogether.
Average UK doctor: young, happy fellow who is great at what he does.
Average American doctor: old, grumpy guy whose only thought is to make more money for himself. patients come second.
In case you are not familiar with Indeed.com, it’s a job aggregator site that pulls jobs from various sources, such as employer sites, into one place.
It USED to be a good site, but not anymore. And they do NOT include ALL jobs, as they claim. They selectively choose which jobs to include, primarily all from big corporations. The smaller companies are being extorted, or only allowed paid listings, and not organic listings.
This is what they did. In the beginning, when they were unknown, they used other job boards to pull jobs from them. In essense, they pulled content (ie jobs) for their own gain. Once they became big, they kicked out all the job content providers and started charging them for clicks.
What’s more, their selective policy is hidden, it’s not listed anywhere on their site, you can only find out about it over the phone.
Anyone following the tech industry sees this crap everyday – some unknown, stupid, useless website gets millions in funding from venture capital firm A, B, C. blah blah blah company is valued at [insert a big million figure] and the founder is filthy rich. You start thinking to yourself – omg, what am i doing wrong? Why am I not that guy/girl who founded it? Holy shit, let me go start a website and I’ll be rich!
There is only one small problem with that – all of the above are gross exaggerations to create buzz/advertising for the website. There was nothing close to those millions in funding, that company is not worth shit, and the owner is still poor.
Don’t believe the hype you read about tech companies, it is simply NOT TRUE. you are being duped, the same way as when you watch infomercials and they promise that cleaner will clean your shirts perfectly or whatever else – it’s a lie, a gimmick.
Everytime I see articles like that and the comments that follow it, I cringe, because it’s actually pretty sad that people believe it.
Today, google has announced a “radical transformation”. It’s more tightly integrating its social network with its search. Please, say it isn’t so!! When is google gonna stop shoving this Google+ atrocity down our throats? Google is not facebook, and we LIKE it that way. Out of all the tech advances it could possibly pick, why go down the social path?? Just leave it alone! It’s not even that profitable, Facebook’s cpc rates are very low.
It seems like Google is purposefully making mistakes left and right in order to make it easier for its competitors to come in and take away search? Google, remember, search is where 99% of your revenue comes from, not social networking! Please stop f**ing up your search experience, otherwise people will just leave.
Raspberry PI is the talk of the town. An amazing $25 computer! While, no doubt, it’s a cool little device, and we are not taking away anything from the team that developed it, the truth still remains that there is very little REVOLUTIONARY about this device. It plays Quake. But, so what? It’s a 12 year old game that came out in 1999. You can take any pos (first two words: piece of) computer and it will run that game smooth as silk.
$25 computers already exist. Look on ebay. You can buy many old P4 computers for $25. And that will get you hard disk, ram, case, motherboard, processor, expansion, etc. The only advantage that Raspeberry PI has over that old computer is size. So if the creators are so worried about schools not being able to afford computers, not to worry, you can already buy $25 computers. And I am sure if you buy them in bulk, price will be even lower.
What’s more, look at the pricing for some smart phones and tablets. You can buy many non-brand tablets and phones for under $100, some even under $60. When you subtract touchscreen, wi-fi and a bunch of other things that they have, you will get a $25 price.
So, there you go. At first glance, a $25 computer is amazing. But when you think about it, it already exists.
