An e-commerce startup is helping small businesses increase sales and conversions

Review sites such as Yelp have experienced tremendous growth over the last few years, providing prospective small business customers with reviews on everything from restaurants and plumbers to contractors and doctors.

Good Business Commission, an organization based in Southern California, is also growing by leaps and bounds. The company is a division of, a provider of Trust Seal services founded in 2008.

The main premise of the Good Business Commission is verifying and accrediting small businesses. Internal surveys conducted by the organization show that customers are 3-5 times more likely to shop with a business that has been verified by a third party.

Most e-commerce stores struggle with getting the first customer. The reason is trust, or lack there of. With a brick-and-mortar store, the customer sees that the merchant has an actual location and has actual products. For online stores, making the sale is much more difficult.

Trust is the cornerstone of online commerce. E-commerce giants such as Paypal have experienced tremendous success due to making their payment plaform safe and secure. Good Business Commission hopes to do the same for small businesses.

The company plans to develop a directory of accredited merchants. It also plans to expand to oversees markets, specifically China, that lacks proper business accreditation / licensing systems.
